Meet Ryker & his family!

Ryker's Momma & I were BFFs when we were younger.

I sent her an email asking if she'd like to volunteer her gorgeous family for some portfolio images I needed.

Yes, these are portfolio images for me, I admit it :)

I wanted to get some more images with Mom & Dad with their newborn baby.

Ryker wasn't too interested in being nakie, so we made due with his onsie.

I hope every family who brings their newborn in for a newborn session is ready to be in some images as well.

I just heard today that Mr. Ryker rolled over. They're only so tiny for so long.

I did Valentine mini-sessions in my studio at the beginning of the month, but I didn't have a chance to take my kids in. SO, we went in, on Valentine's day, and tried to get some of our own. I got some 'okay' ones with the kissing booth set up (my kids are notorious 'photographer kids'), but I got this absolutely adorable one of them without all the 'extra' stuff. I ordered it in a float wrap because I love it so much!

This past weekend I participated in my first ever Expo! The Family Expo was at the TRAC, in Pasco, WA, and it was a very fun, and very long, two days! =)

For my expo booth set-up, I wanted to give the message: 'This is what my nursery could look like', and I ran from there! I had pretty much everything already in my studio, sans the walls, so it didn't take much to get my display ready. I also had most of my products in the studio already for display purposes, but I did have to narrow down a few to display on the wall and a cutie for the front of my booth.

The chevron curtains I made myself. I purchased the fabric from Fabric.com, cut, sewed, cut & sewed some 'ties' for the top, and looped them around some branches one of my clients cut off a tree in her yard!

Well, Mr. Landon was back in the studio for his sixth month portrait session. I *love* this age because they're so smiley, they are sitting up enough but not crawling and they give some super cute unique little faces to capture. Landon was in for his three month session here and his newborn session here (he's a member of my 1st year program, with an extra session thrown in so he comes in every three months). Two sessions to go, 9 months and First Birthday, and I am so excited to see how he changes!!

If you want to schedule a session with me, I do have a minimum investment requirement. Because, a portrait session with me is just that, an investment. I don't just snap a photo and hand over a file. I am one who is always saying "Take pictures." And by that, I don't mean "Take professional pictures", I mean, take pictures: professional, point & shoot, cell phone, photo booth at the mall, etc.

Time and moments are fleeting. Memories can be forever with one single photo.

From a series of photos I took of my kids at our dining table, called 'A Tale of Two Suckers'

40 years from now, you can look at an image from your college graduation, your wedding, your child's birth, your Daughter's first day of Kindergarten, your Son's first baseball game, your husband walking your Daughter down the aisle.... the list goes on. As you take a nice, long look at one of those photos, memories will come floating back in and swirling about, possibly causing tears of joy to pool in the corner of your eye.

This is why I have a minimum investment for sessions. I capture memories. Not only do I capture them, I plan to capture them. I compose thoughts and feelings within the frames. I can't do this alone though, I need your help. I need you to be YOU. After our session, I finesse images with care, creating a gallery of memories to lose yourself in. My goal for each session is to have you walk away with images to showcase and memories for preservation. I believe everyone should have gorgeous memories dancing around the walls, playing in albums and image boxes, and lying in wait in digital form.

Don't all photographer-Moms hold their kids down and tickle them for a genuine smile?

I have my own personality. I have my own technique. I have my own personal experiences. I have my own style. I have passion.

I took my kids to the park during the Fall so they could actually play in some leaves, since we had none at our house

Every family has their own personality, style, passion.... I want my clients to fall in love with my style, and more-or-less me when they schedule a session. I want them to be passionate about capturing this moment in their lives.

From the first time we took the kids bowling. My Son has been asking to go back ever since.

I may or I may not be the perfect fit for someone. I may be priced more than Photographer A or less than Photographer B. I encourage clients to shop around so they can find a photographer they fall in love with. If you're going to make an investment in a portrait session, please be sure it is an investment you will fall in love with every time you view images from your session. I understand budgets, so think about it as if you're shopping for a new living room set or television, or even perhaps a larger item, such as a car or house. And remember, you are not just capturing memories for yourself, but for your friends and family and children as well.

My Mom told me to hand over the camera when we went to the pumpkin patch. I am VERY thankful she did!

This little girl is a natural in front of the camera, even if she is freezing her little nose off! Last year, we ended up getting snow for their session, which was awesome! This year, Mom wanted snow again, but I think we really lucked out with the amazing frost and fog combination!

After our third trip in and out of the car to heat up :) , we made our way back to the studio for some 'warm' photos!

And we've decided that we will be doing an annual 'shoe' picture, these ladies and I. I told her Mom, before you know it, it'll be wedding shoes! Her response, you better stick around then! :)

This adorable and incredibly sweet family traveled all the way from Outlook, WA for their photos! The session didn't start out so great with the power on the block being out (think NO heat, but thankfully it was sunny I didn't need my AlienBees strobe light), and the family getting discombobulatied and turned around finding my studio.

Thankfully, the power came back on and we powered through multiple family and group poses (including some of my all time favorites!) and the newest addition managed to rock out a sort of mini-newborn session in the second half of the session (while the older three were kept entertained by Cars 2 on my tv in the studio) =) I'm hoping to travel up to them this spring/summer/fall for some more family photos, I hear they have beautiful property :)

Oh mercy sakes! This little girl was a photographer's dream! She put up with me & my antics so well! :) She went from outside to inside to clothing changes and barely made a fuss! I do hope she comes back for some Birthday photos in the Spring! And she was the first to model in my new pram as well, isn't she just divine!

And when Mom came in to order, she brought Grandma too, who picked up a set of accordion albums. Aren't they perfect!

Last month I welcomed the entire Smith family to the MRP family :) I got to take photos of the twin boys + Big Sister for some newborn photos, and I was glad to see them back for a family photo or two! It wasn't too cold and everyone did great! The boys weren't that in to it, but it's better than crying! ;) I also got to use my new 'tent' with the kiddos, and they rocked it!

Then, the boys came back in to the studio a few days later for their 6 month photos! They are so unbelievably cute, I wanted to sneak them home in my camera bag!

I can NOT wait for some 1st birthday photos!!!

Elf on the Shelf: 12/7-12/17

Jack, our Elf on the Shelf, is back again! He's been all over the living room and kitchen areas. I think he's afraid to move beyond those areas in to the great unknown of children's bedrooms and bathrooms and whatnot :)

Little Miss Charlotte was back again for her 8 month session (session #3 from her first year plan), and this time we moved it outside! I was a tad nervous about the weather, as it was just dreary out the few days before we had scheduled her session, and it was the end of October (think FALL weather!). But the day turned out so perfect and gorgeous!

And they brought their most well-behaved furry baby Charlie. He was gorgeous and I wanted them to take my puppy home for training! ;o)

And since we had SO many cute ones, it was totally easy to throw together this wall collage!

And for every client I design a card layout, whether it's a newborn, 1st birthday, family, Christmas, whatever, and I designed this Chevron boutique folded template for them, as well as a few others. This is not the one they picked, so I thought I'd share it, because I LOVE it! :)

I think Jack wanted a late night mug of hot cocoa :) There were marshmallows on the counter around the mug, but someone just ate them all..... including sneaking some from the mug itself!

Hmm, maybe Jack's perch right behind the kitchen sink is a sign that he wants me to catch up on my housework..... ;o)

Elf on the Shelf has finally made it's way in to our house! I'm not sure who is more excited, the kids or myself! :) If you're not sure what Elf on the Shelf is, check out their website here.

So meet Jack, our elf from the North Pole. The timing was great and the day we picked up Jack at Target, they were showing the Elf on the Shelf movie that night on CBS. My 5 year old totally gets it, my 3 year old, not so much yet.....

So I will be photographing Jack's adventures around our house this year, and I will hopefully be uploading them every few days. This morning, we found Jack in a wreath, hanging behind the Christmas tree...

One of the greatest gifts you can give is the gift of memories. The Deacy family was gifted a session by someone they love, and it was nothing short of amazing. The light was beautiful, the family fun and gorgeous and the timing perfect. These kids were soooo easy to photograph, and we spent just the perfect amount of time on their session, as attention spans only last so long :)

Mr. Noah was back for his 4 month photos, and he just keeps getting cuter and cuter!! I will be honest, he wasn't really in to it, and he did need a power nap about half way through. I'm okay with that, because he gave me some absolutely adorable photos. We even got a couple of napping photos of him in his Santa Hat! And he gave me the *perfect* smile in his Santa Hat, but I'll keep that a secret 'til his parents send out their holiday cards!

Senior #2: Emily! Emily was super fun to work with, as she didn't want the 'boring' senior session :) We did some photos down in Howard Amon at SUNRISE! then headed over to the Parkade across the street for some urban-y shots, and some in her prom dress (so cute!).

2. How long have you been in business, and what got you in to the toy business?

This all started seven years ago, with the birth of my son Nico. Once he entered my life, I knew that I my career as a full time middle school teacher would be taking a break. I would need to find something that I was just as passionate about but would allow me the flexibility and energy to tend to my boy. At about that same time, my long-time friend Pam, and web designer, was starting to hand make dolls. We put our heads together and came up with an online toy store, featuring local, handmade toys that we felt were different but still affordable and fun.

Then, just about two years ago, my family and I had to suddenly pick up and move to the Tri Cities to tend to family. I maintained the online store but the move made a partnership difficult, and Pam and I decided to split. She returned to her web design career, and I decided that the time had come to give it a go on my own.

Just about the time this new business plan started coming together, Jenna and Swanky Babies announced their move and vacant space in downtown Kennewick. The timing could not have been better. And so, here I am today, same great idea that I started with back in 2005, in a location where we have several child and parent centered shops, finding and selling the toys I know are high quality, timeless and fun.

3. What is your most popular toy?

For babies, it is the Photo Mobile, paired with Art Cards by Wee Gallery. The cards are printed on thick recycled cardboard with soy-based ink with these great black and white images of farm animals, sea life, garden critters, jungle animals or naturally black and white animals (penguins being my favorite).

For the toddlers, our selection of Rubbabu rubber vehicles are very popular. They are these squishy soft cars, trains, and planes with brightly colored flocking and rubber wheels. Fun to roll around and don't hurt when you throw them either!

For the big kids, the arts and crafts are always a big hit, and elementary and older always gravitate towards the Softdough. Made in Oregon with food grade, nontoxic ingredients, it's play dough that really lasts. We've had a sample open for two year now, no joke, and its still soft and pliable. We've got a rainbow assortment stacker or individual colors, including glow in the dark. Many folk think the older kids won't go for toys anymore with all the electronics out on the market. I've watched those same big kids play with my toys for hours.

4. What are the most unique toys you carry?

Many of my toys are one-of-a-kind, and are not duplicated or mass produced. My handmade rattles are knit or sanded by hand. My handmade babies and sock animals are each sewn by hand. Each sock animal is a sweater, and once the sweater is used, the artisan hunts her local thrift store for another. They are about as unique as you can get!

5. Do you have children who test new toys?

Nico and Lily of course! They are seven and three, and a big influence upon what I carry in the store. I also watch what kids go to first when they walk in the door, and are often surprised by what they pick up. I have babies who love the building sets and big kids who race around with the push toys.

6. What were some of the first toys you carried, and do you have anything new on the way?

I've always carried the handmade dolls and rattles, and always will. New will be books, eco art kits, and activity books. All coming next month!

The theme at I Heart Faces this week is "Let them be little".

I posted this photo on Facebook, telling people how it isn't as easy for me to take pictures of my own kids, as it is for me to photograph my clients, and that Parent's shouldn't feel like their children are uncooperative, because I've seen it all, personally!!

So I say, LET THEM BE LITTLE. In this time, kids are growing up way too quickly. Let them have every minute they can of their childhood. You won't regret it, and they will love you for it.

We have a graduate! Another graduate of my Baby's First Year Plan! Miss Jordynn was such a doll to photograph over her first year. To this day, she still is the winner for 'most hair' =)

We were able to catch her on the bed we photographed her on when she had her newborn portrait session

And then........

We tried to do a cake smash, and Mom & Dad told me she probably wouldn't be a fan, as she wasn't too in to it at her party. Dad said how they had all these *great* photos of Big Sister at her first birthday cake smash. Well, nothing like complete opposites ;o)

I will say, she is one gorgeous little girl! And she is about to become a Big Sister in the next month or so, so it'll be exciting to see the newest addition!!

I just wanted to share a few things we devoured this past week.

Stuffed baked zucchini

Since we have an abundant amount of zucchini growing in our small garden, I had to find something to make with it. (I also made two batches of zucchini chocolate oatmeal cookies, but I guess we ate those up before I could get photos :) This was pretty good, even my 5 year old ate it up. I think next time around I'm going to add in an extra meat, and not forget the sour cream!

CrockPot Sandwiches

Now, I had my doubts about this, but it turned out great! I bought a bit of a smaller round bread for the next time around. The pepper rings really made it superb!

Baked Oatmeal

I'm torn on this one. I think what I didn't like was the cut up banana on the bottom. We may try again but without the banana.

These girls...... :)

Mom and I scheduled, then rescheduled, then rescheduled again a few more times to try to get their whole family together for the photos, but it just wasn't working out. So Mom decided to just get'r'done and get the girls' photos done. They were great models, and quite the change from the newborns and babies I've been photographing, they took direction pretty well ;o)

Mom ended up ordering quite a few float wraps from their session, so as soon as she gets those hung up I'm going to drop on in, snap some photos and then share them with y'all!! I can't wait to see them on her walls!!

The newest product I'm offering, similar to the mini-accordion books. This is a 4x8 accordion book, and I think I'm in love!!

Last month, I took up an offer from a fellow client friend, who actually won a mini-session from me last year, then moved from the Seattle area to Spokane, to trade sessions of each others' family. I am so glad we did, I had a blast! More on that later. While we were in Spokane, we stayed with my Dad, and we went miniature golfing for the first time as a family at Wonderland. I looked at it as kind of an early 'birthday' for my Son, since he wasn't feeling too well on his actual birthday. After we did a round of mini-golf, we went inside and hit up the ticket games. I totally rocked it and won 250 on a game!!

I ask for one 'posed' photo....

Again, ONE posed photo..... I hope my Daughter grows out of this diva stage one day....

Theme this week is WHITE. The photo has to be in COLOR, with white being a primary color. This is from one of my sessions this month with one of my baby planners. I'm sure most photographers know how hard it is to get a 6 month old and a 2 year old to cooperate at the same time for some photos. When I pulled out my chair, Big Sister was asking, "Where's mine?" =)

I really enjoy having good photographer online-friends (note to self: make them friends IRL too!), who can share their sessions with me when they go to Vegas and other places :) I met the Watson family to photograph their Son, Derek. And every.single.time. I go to write his name, I always write "Derik", my own Son's name :) For Derek's (I did it again!) session, we started off with more of the 'prop' shots, and by the time we got to my traditional 'baby-on-blanket', he wasn't having any more photo taking. But I adore the shots we managed to get, got a couple of new favorites of my own!!

This week on I Heart Faces, the theme is "Beautiful Eyes". I was brought to this photo of my Daughter. I took this at her 3rd Birthday party last month. Now, out of her three years of life, she has been a grump butt about 33 months, so I absolutely cherish the images like this where I've captured true joy in her eyes.

Meet Miss Charlotte. She is back for her 4 month session, this time with her Mom & Dad too. Charlotte wasn't too happy about having her photo session, but we tried. After a bit, we decided to take a break and try again after an hour or so, hoping she'd take a bit of a power nap. Well, even after her break she still wasn't so excited about getting photos done, but my goodness, she is gorgeous, even without a smile! Hopefully when she's back in for her next session, at 8 months, I can get her smiling and giggling!

Since I didn't get any good photos of the cake pops AT my Daughter's birthday, I thought I'd start the post off with a picture of them. Watch out Starbucks!! :) And yes, I was finishing these up after 10pm the night before her birthday....

Delicious, right?! And they were sooooo tasty!

On to the party!

Now, last year, I was the 'bad' Mom (well, I really just felt bad) who didn't throw a party for her Daughter turning 2. So to make up for my lack of SuperMomness this year, I planned and planned. With the help of Pinterest, I was able to plan my Daughter's Sweet Treats birthday party. I actually over-planned and didn't get to do everything I wanted, but I was still so happy and excited with the way it turned out.

I found this awesome jar at a local store (Tuesday Morning), and grabbed it right up.... it was perfect!!
See the fruit to the right of the jar? That was a big hit! It's called fruit salsa, and went so perfectly with the cinnamon-sugar 'chips'! I will be making this ALL the time!

Below are Thumbprint Cookies and Kiss Pies. Now, I had never tasted Nutella before making these, but I think I am now addicted!! And the Thumbprint Cookies were SO tasty, and not bad for you either =)

I couldn't just have it all sweets, so I threw in some fun veggie cups.

Meet Tristan & Everett. They are the sweetest twin boys! I had a casting call out on Facebook for twin newborns, and a friend of their Momma's told them about my casting call. I am SO glad she did! They were great sleepers, and we got a fantastic shot of them with Big Sister too. I hope they come back when they're a bit bigger.... ;o)

Oh my, dear Daughter.... I'm not even sure what to write to or about you. You have sent my life in such a different spiral than I had prepared myself for. You are so independent, yet you are always needing something from me. You are one of the fiercest little loves I have ever known. You get so beyond excited for certain movies (right now your favorite is Curious George). Even though you don't say much, you can recite scenes from your favorite movies. We are in the middle of potty training, listening, eating all your dinner, sharing with others, being nice to brother, staying out of the treats, and so much more! Can't wait to see how the upcoming year treats us!

Emma brought in her big brothers for some more photos. We were able to sneak in some sibling photos as well as some photos to celebrate Big Brother Max's 1st birthday! Aren't they some good looking kiddos?!

And to match Sister's image box, Mom also got this super cute one for Maxwell. I love the quote she chose for the back, "A person's a person, no matter how small." -Dr. Seuss. She said it was the quote that was in the NICU where Max spent some time.

It's always bittersweet to see my first year plan members 'graduate' from the plan. I am so glad these families have entrusted me to photograph the growth of their sweet babies. I may not get to see them as often now that their plan has come to a finish, but I do hope they continue to choose me to document their family as they continue to grow.

Now Trevor, he was probably the most happy he has ever been for his photos. I absolutely LOVED it! I can't say more than that, so I'll just let the photos do the talking.

The theme this week at I Heart Faces is YELLOW. I wasn't sure what I was going to end up choosing for my photo, but I think I had this image in the back of my mind for awhile. This is my Daughter, running around looking for eggs, on Easter. Although I love the images I took, I realized I should have handed my camera over to someone else and experienced the moment with them.

I was lucky enough to get a few headbands from Pink Poppy in exchange for some photos. So I put a casting call out on Facebook, looking for a baby girl who was sitting, not yet crawling, and who had a small-ish head (strange, I know, but I needed the headbands to fit). Again, I was lucky enough to get this absolutely adorable baby girl to come in to model the headbands for me. Instead of overloading my blog with photos, I decided to instead do a slideshow for you. 1. Your name, business name, where you're located and areas you serve

My name is Tessa Selch and I am the Owner of Exclusive Cakes. We are an online based business at this time and service the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas. We hope to have as store front with in the next year!

2. How long have you been in business, and what got you in to the cake business?

I have been making cakes for over 15 years! I decided to get my business license a few years ago and started to turn my hobby/passion into a business! My Mom made cakes when I was a little girl and I was her helper in the kitchen, but mainly her taste tester!! My sisters and I always had the coolest birthday cakes and our friends were always amazed that our Mom could make something so cool! When I had children of my own I started making their birthday cakes and eventually was making all of my kids' friends birthday cakes too! Then I was making wedding cakes for friends and for friends of friends and that referral process is really what got me started!

3. What is your most popular request?

I wouldn't say that I have a "popular" request. All of my cakes are made to order, and they are specifically designed for the customer. Unlike other bakeries we don't have a template for our cakes. We make anything, any size, any style or design. We do sculpted cakes or 3D cakes, we make edible characters for our cakes out of fondant and modeling chocolate. So not only are they really cool, but they are really tasty!!

4. What is the most unusual cake project you've done?

So by request I made a specialty adult cake for a friend for her husband birthday! After this one cake we received a ton of adult specialty cake requests for bachelor and bachelorette parties, even a Passion party!

5. Do you taste test? ;o)

Of Course!!! We get a lot of special requests for flavors that we do not have on our flavors list online. We are always willing to try to accommodate, so most recently we had a request for a pineapple and strawberry combination. Which turned out delicious and now we are adding it to our flavors list!

6. You obviously do cakes for weddings, but could my birthday babies pick up a cake for their cake smash session from you? :)

This family has been in a few times, the last of which included making a new squirrel friend. I was very excited to meet their newest member, a little Sister! She wasn't too keen on being a model at first, but we eventually got her there. And no newborn session is complete without a little peeing on Mom =)

There is NO way I wasn't going to enter this week, our area is FULL of wind. Most of the time, annoying as all heck! In fact, just a couple weeks ago, the wind blew over this huge tree in my Mom's front yard. Luckily, it blew right in the street, missing houses, landscaping, mailboxes, and everything else! Anywho, the photo I chose for this week's entry is one of my Son. I took him down for his 4.5 year photos, and he was being a rotten turkey for me! In fact, the few real smiles I caught looked something similar to this: eyes closed, out of focus.... But of course, those are the ones I love the most :)

Every once in awhile, you have a newborn that just won't do quite what you want them to do for you. This little miss is a prime example. We started her day 1 session at her home, and ended the next day in the studio. I think she's also one of the 'messiest' babies I've photographed so far as well =) However, through all that, she let me get some absolutely gorgeous family photos as well as individual photos.

I have been sending these out with every gallery, so families can get a sense of how their images could/should/will look up on their walls at home. =)

My baby plan club that is! Little Miss Emma is one of the newest members, and probably the smallest so far, arriving just about a day after Mom's maternity session, about 5 weeks early! (BTW, if you're looking to deliver early, I'm your photographer ;o) Since I am a bit *ahem* behind on blogging, I am merging their belly & baby photos.

I absolutely loved this maternity session! Gorgeous clients, stuff brought in from home, decent February light, ideas flowing.

The birth of your baby is one of the most important memories you will hold dear in your life.
I am here to document and preserve those memories for you.

Some say a birth is like a wedding. You spend days, weeks, months preparing for this special day. Your mind is racing a mile a minute. There are certain people you hire to pull your wedding off without a hitch: minister, wedding coordinator, photographer. Your baby's birth is similar. You spend 40 weeks or so preparing for your little one's arrival. You 'hire' a doctor/midwife. You enlist a doula or friend for support during labor and birth. It only seems proper that you have a photographer on hand to photograph all the important details in those special moments.

They only get laid on your chest that first time, once.

They only get weighed and measured that first time, once.

{{DIY}} Canvas hand prints

Have you heard of Pinterest? It's kind of like a giant cork board where you can 'pin' anything you want! Watch out though, if you sign up, it can be a major time suck =)

Anywho, reason I mention it is that I have a 'DIY' board, that I pin all this fun DIY (do-it-yourself) stuff on. I pinned a photo of four canvases with hand prints from all four family members. The photo I pinned was actually a kit you could buy to make them yourselves, seen here. Well pfft! I could make that myself! Only, I wanted to make them in B&W to go on our living room wall with the rest of our B&W images. So here's what I did!

Bought a pack of two 12x12 canvases from Big Lots for $5. (I also bought small ones for their rooms)

Coated the front with black acrylic paint. I left the sides white to create illusion and depth.

Painted their little hands white and printed them right in the middle. I took a silver sharpie and wrote their name, age and date on one of the sides.

Here are their 'color' prints for their rooms :)

After doing some rearranging, this is our new wall display. I personally LOVE it!

So I LOVE my new personalized wall art. I have plans, eventually, to get Dad's and my own prints up there as well. Give it a shot!

This little boy was a long time coming. He was welcomed in to the family by his two big Sisters, Mom, Dad, Grandma & Great Grandma. I went to the hospital expecting a sort of "Wham, bam, thank you Mam" sort of birth, considering the circumstances, but plans changed a bit once I got there. Mom's water was to be broken as I was on my way over, hence my heading to the hospital, but when I had arrived, the waters were still calm. (Crazy side note, this birth took place in the same exact birthing suite at Kadlec!)

So we waited. And waited. And waited. We watched a bit of a ghost hunter type of show. Waited some more. Even with suggestions from the Dr. for Mom to take a nap (ha!), waters were stirred, and I'd say about a half-hour, 45 minutes later, baby boy had arrived! It was all too sweet, I just wish it hadn't been the middle of the night so I was able to get some shots of Big Sisters getting to meet their baby brother for the first time.

Missing Our Little Lime Baby

Nobody knew you” Well it probably wasn’t a viable fetus.It’s all for the best.”…were perfect.

Nobody knew you” You can always have another!”…were unique.

Nobody knew you” You already have a beautiful child. Be happy!”…were loved for yourself.

Nobody knew you…but us.

March 12th, 2011. Due date for our little lime baby, baby #3, who we let go at 11 weeks.

From the minute I found out I was pregnant, a million things were racing through my mind. We live in a three bedroom house, how was that going to work out? We'd have to fit three across, so three brand new car seats, or a new vehicle. I would be going through this pregnancy sort of with my Sister-in-law, who was due a month before. My 'significant other' and I aren't in the best relationship, what's this little bean going to do to that? How would my crabby, clingy but lovey two-year-old deal with a new baby? I couldn't wait to see my 4-year-old become a big Brother, again. I had just moved in to the new studio, how would having a baby during the slow season effect my ability to cover the studio rent? Would I have to put any of my kids in daycare now? All these things and a million more were running through my head. Daily, hourly, every minute....

Then, it started. Something that could mean nothing, but could also mean the end. For me, it was the end. I found great support and comfort through all the love that was showered over me on Facebook. Sounds cheesy, but Facebook can be a strong and powerful thing. After the numbers were in, and I was in fact loosing the baby, I continued to go through 'it', for what seemed like a long time. Of course, with 'it' going on, it is a constant reminder of what you had, but then lost so suddenly. I seemed okay. I felt okay. I was sure I was okay and I didn't have any other feelings than just 'okay'.

However, I'm not just 'okay'. I think about my little lime baby every day. (Reference to 'lime' because that was the supposed size of the baby at about 11 weeks) I'm not sure if I think about the lime out of sadness or longing or joy or remorse or remembrance. I don't think I will ever not remember, and I hope that is true.

To 'celebrate' the missed birth of baby #3, I wanted to go out for some photos with my little ones, but that is always so hard to coordinate, so I just swept them up, grabbed some balloons, and tried to snap a few. Of course, my Daughter is a rotten stinker, so we didn't get very many smiley ones, but I did get the one above, which I sort of fell in love with. I plan to print this and hang this, BIG. (and I did order it, a 18x24)

In remembrance of our little lime baby, I will never forget you and hope to meet you one day.

This is a fun week over at I Heart Faces, merely for the fact that their topic this week is anything BUT a face! As soon as I saw one of their featured posts in my Facebook news feed, I knew the perfect image to submit.

My kids love cameras. They are two and four, below is my two year old. My boyfriend brought this camera home the other day, and my Son (4yr) loves to 'take pictures' with it. Well, my 2 year old got ahold of it and was testing out the buttons. I just love it when she says, "Take a picture" and "Cheese" because she has been so anti-photo her whole life. I need to set time aside to see if this works, then I might just let it be the kids' camera, to see life how they see it.

Being a photographer who specializes in newborn photography, it only seemed natural to gravitate towards birth photography. I follow of few of my inspirations and get teary eyed every time I view their blogs when they post a birth. And then I automatically would turn around and share it on my Facebook page! It seems that it's still not a very common thing, but I agree very much about one blog post I read: Birth photography is like wedding photography. So true! Life changing events, and you just have a photographer there to document it.

My first birth was amazing! There are probably many other words to describe it, but amazing pretty much sums it up. I got the word on Facebook that one of my two Moms was at the hospital getting induced. Cue butterflies. A few hours later I get a text, so I call my babysitter right away and she comes over right away. As I'm leaving my house, I get a call that the Mom had gone from 5-10 in that 30 minutes, but they would wait for me :)

I rush to the hospital and when I arrive, I never have seen such a calmer environment. Mom is a rock star, applying make up so she will be looking like a rock star in the photos. Family is all around, filling the atmosphere with love. Little kids running in and out, quite enjoying themselves.

Being that this was the very first birth I had ever witnessed, aside from the births of my own kids, I was nervous and shaking and sweating and on the verge of tears as the little one was being born. I am so thankful
I was able to capture those moments that I saw and felt.

In the end, I had a fantastic first birth photography opportunity and a new gorgeous baby boy was born in to a family full of love for him. I can't wait to see him again for some newborn photos!

Loved the color for this mini-maternity session! The Hammitt family is back again. I photographed them last year for engagement photos and their wedding in late summer, and now here they are with the newest addition. Isn't she gorgeous! She was only two weeks away from her delivery date! I actually get to photograph their new baby girl tomorrow morning.

First session of 2011! It was crazy insane, but lots of fun! Last time I saw Miss Summer was for her newborn session. We got some new photos for all the kiddos and we got a great family photo too! :) No easy feat when you've got two little ones and a diva ;o)

I took *the* perfect image for this today. We played a bunch today, and still managed to keep the house decently picked up! I put my Lensbaby on for some more play, since it's not really my go-to lens, and the moment I snapped this one of my Daughter, I fell in love! I think I will actually print this and hang it in her room. And then when I saw on the Facebook news feed about the upcoming theme, I knew instantly I was going to use this photo. I have no idea what she's looking at but she stood like this for a few moments, in her Tinkerbell costume during our 'dress up' time :)

This week over at I Heart Faces, they are celebrating their 2nd birthday! I try to enter when they have a subject that really grabs me by the ankles and drags me in. I knew I could find one for their theme this week, SMILE. This is my Son, trying not to let me see him so I wouldn't take a picture of him. He is such a goof!

{{Get your craft on}} Modge Podge Magnets

One of my 'goals' (not resolutions, cause who keeps to those?!), this year is to be more crafty, and document that as I go along. Simple enough, right? Here is my first craft, other than my side sewing, that I've done this year. This is part one of the project, but I'm not exactly sure what part two is going to be yet.

Modge Podge Magnets
Get your supplies:
Scissors
Scrap paper
Glass drops
Small round magnets
Modge Podge
Paintbrush
Laptop and coffee not required :)

First, trace around the glass drops and cut out the circles from the scrap paper. I picked up some coordinating printed scrapbook papers for $0.50 and $0.99 at Craft Warehouse.

Next, spread thin layer of modge podge on the back of the glass drop and press the cut out scrap circle to the modge podge. Press and hold for a good 20-30 seconds. Follow through with all glass drops.

After pressing on all the circles, run another thin layer of modge podge over the scrap paper.

Finally, hot glue the small magnets to the back of the glass drops. Voila!

So until I finish part 2 of this project, this is our magnets' home :)
